Everything You Need to Know About Formal Wear Rentals and Purchases
Rental Questions
How far in advance should I reserve my tuxedo? We recommend reserving at least three weeks before your event for standard rentals and six weeks for peak season dates including prom weekends, New Year's Eve, and June wedding Saturdays. However, we maintain emergency inventory for same-day and next-day needs at all flagship locations.
What is included in a standard tuxedo rental? Every Formal America rental includes the dinner jacket, matching trousers, a dress shirt, a bow tie or necktie, studs and cufflinks, and a cummerbund or vest. Shoes, suspenders, pocket squares, and top hats are available as add-ons.
Can I purchase the tuxedo instead of renting? Absolutely. Many of our clients begin with a rental and later purchase the same model after experiencing the fit and quality. We apply fifty percent of your rental fee toward the purchase price if you decide to buy within thirty days of your event.
What happens if I damage the garment? Minor wear such as loose threads or a missing button is covered at no charge. Significant damage including burns, tears, or stains requiring specialized treatment may incur a repair fee not exceeding the replacement value of the garment. We carry insurance options for high-risk events.
Fit & Alterations
Do you offer alterations on rental garments? Yes. Our in-house tailors perform complimentary minor adjustments including sleeve shortening, waist suppression, and trouser hemming at all flagship locations. Major alterations such as shoulder reconstruction or size exchanges are handled with replacement inventory.
How do I know what size to order? During your reservation, we schedule a fitting appointment where our tailors take comprehensive measurements including chest, waist, hips, inseam, sleeve length, shoulder width, and neck size. These measurements are kept on file for future rentals.
What if my weight changes between fitting and event? We accommodate reasonable weight fluctuations at no charge if you visit for a refitting at least one week before your event. Emergency adjustments within forty-eight hours of the event are available for a nominal fee.
Delivery & Returns
Do you ship rentals nationwide? Yes. We ship complete ensembles to any address in the continental United States via insured courier. Garments arrive twenty-four to forty-eight hours before your event with prepaid return packaging and labels.
When do I need to return the rental? Standard rental periods are three days: delivery before the event, the event day, and return the following business day. Extended rental periods are available for destination weddings and multi-day conferences.
What if my flight is delayed and I cannot return on time? Contact our customer service team immediately. We offer grace periods for weather delays and airline disruptions. Uncommunicated late returns incur daily rental extension fees.
